Fun ways to celebrate National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day

National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day falls on 4^th August, and has a theme of ‘Living Our Truth – honouring the power of truth-telling, the sharing of knowledge across generations and the importance of telling our stories’. Led by SNAICC, it’s a chance for Australians to recognise and celebrate the strength, pride and potential of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, and events will be happening across the country.

With community groups, kindies, schools and sports clubs all taking part, the day will feature everything from storytelling and cultural learning to art, music, sport and more. To help those hosting an event, we’ve rounded up some handy resources that’ll make the day a fun-packed celebration of our jarjum.

Get crafty

Inspire their creativity with a craft idea from our Deadly Kindies team, such as this fun spray bottle art project.

Have a singalong

Watch this video and learn all about the traditional Torres Strait Islander song Taba Naba, then sing together and perform movements as you do.

Boost their brainpower

Wiggle around

Get everyone to dust off their dancing shoes and dance to The Wiggles as they perform traditional Torres Strait Islander folk songs for kids.

Settle down with a story
